Food Choices For Young Women
Is your teenage daughter always dieting or worrying about eating too much?
Teenage girls often seem preoccupied with their weight. Even though they need fewer calories than teenage boys, girls continue to grow until about age 16. So consuming enough calories is very important. Too few calories can result in a failure to grow.
A healthful diet for teenagers should include four or more servings of milk, cheese or yogurt per day; four to six ounces of meat, fish, poultry or dried beans; three servings of vegetables; two servings of fruit and at least six servings of grain products.
Teens can control their calories by limiting high fat foods and getting regular physical activity.
If your teenage daughter needs help with her eating habits, contact a registered dietitian.
